It's been an awful long time since I last wrote anything here. Last year was ridiculously busy but hopefully this year will be calmer and I'll find time to post more often.
A tedious morning staring down the microscope at the genitalia of some rather boring moths was enlivened by news of a Greater Yellowlegs at Titchfield Haven. I have seen 'Greaterlegs' in six countries but not in Britain and it was only about 10 miles from home so I should be able to get there before the crowds.
The bird was fairly distant, good enough through the scope but way beyond my camera so here is a photo courtesy of Wikipedia Commons.
If you go, be sure to wear wellies as the path along the canal is a mud bath.
